Kowloon East Kowloon East, with an area of about 488 hectares, comprises the Kai Tak Development (KTD) Area, the Kowloon Bay Business Area (KBBA) and the Kwun Tong Business Area (KTBA). Kwun Tong Kwun Tong is one of the first New towns in Hong Kong, which was a major industrial area. Its population has been growing rapidly. In view of this, a number of community development projects have been implemented. In recent years, government has actively transformed Kwun Tong into Hong Kong's CBD2, which attracted worldwide companies settling in the district. Kwun Tong Action Area (KTAA) Kwun Tong Action Area (KTAA) is planned for a mixed-use development comprising commercial (i.e. office, retail and food and beverages), government/institution or community, open space, and public transport facilities, etc. Existing government facilities are replanned with a view to rationalizing the land uses and enhancing the waterfront environment. KTAA would provide about 80,000 sq. m of commercial floor space and about 22,000 sq. m of public open space. The multi-level public open space network proposed in KTAA would be connected to the Kwun Tong Waterfront Promenade and extended towards the future Tsui Ping River and Cha Kwo Ling Waterfront. Besides, traffic improvement measures are proposed, such as changing the roundabout at Hoi Yuen Road/Wai Yip Street junction into a signalized junction to increase junction capacity, and converting Kei Yip Lane into a two-way traffic lane with the provision of an additional carriageway passing through the KTAA to divert the roundabout traffic. Public parking spaces will also be provided in the future development.
